IPOL Collects New Survey Data and Finds that Support for Restrictions on Foreign Car Sales has Dropped Substantially since 1981

In 1981 the Iowa Poll 248 asked respondents from Iowa a series of questions related to the assassination attempt. In order to see how opinions have shifted since then we placed four of the questions on a recent survey. Respondents in a 2026 U.S. national poll were asked if they agreed or disagreed with these same four questions. Overall, responses showed modest shifts, with the most notable trend being an substantial increase in the percentage that answered “No Opinion”.

IPOL Collects New Survey Data and Finds that Americans Believe they are Trusted Less Today Than Iowans Thought they were in 1981

In 1981 Iowa Poll 248 asked respondents from Iowa a series of questions related to whether they would be trusted to return to a restaurant to pay if they had forgotten their wallet. In order to see how opinions have shifted since then we placed this question on a 2026 U.S. national poll. Our findings indicate that fewer respondents expected to be trusted today, down from nearly half in 1981 to one-third today.

In 1981 Iowa Poll 248 asked respondents from Iowa a series of questions related to attitudes toward parenthood and family-size, specifically: “If you had to do it over, would you have more, same, fewer, or no children?”. In order to see how opinions have shifted since then we placed this question on a 2026 U.S. national poll. Our findings indicate that there are fewer parents, that parents today have fewer children, but a higher percentage of them would like to have more children.
